Royler Gracie, one of the most renowned instructors and accomplished fighters in BJJ, releases the last volume of his competition series covering the ultimate goal of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Submissions. The four times World BJJ Champion, three times World ADCC Champion demonstrates his favorite competition-tested techniques.
Royler reveals the submissions that allowed him to win many fights throughout his illustrious career. Watch how Royler submits the toughest opponents by viewing historic competition footage. Royler covers traditional submissions and more advanced positions as well. He teaches variations and set ups that most of your opponents wont be expecting. Professor Royler Gracie and Professor Adiv would like to congratulate and thank all students and representatives who made of our "RGDA International Championships 2009" a great success. Several RGDA Competition Team Members came to our representative school, Elite Martial Arts in Morganville/NJ, to contributed for an excellent display of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu skills and sportsmanship. All teams and fighters fought very hard. Everyone gave out their best in a very technical and humane show beyond our expectations.
We apologize to some of the participants who had to fight in different divisions and not their own. Despite the disadvantage of belt, age or weight, they had the courage to fight and put on a great show. Wining or losing every fight was good. It means that both fighters fought their best, therefore it qualifies as a good fight. It just happens that someone wins and the other doesn't. We encourage everyone to continue training smart and to come back to fight again.
Among our affiliated academies we had the presence of athletes and instructors from: Bill Steven's Karate, Dragon's Den MMA, Elijah BJJ, Elite Martial Arts, Gracie New Jersey Academy, Gracie PA, Lancaster Family Martial Arts Center, Mrkulic BJJ, Performance BJJ,and RGDA Ephrata.
We are looking forward to gather again! Stay focused and keep working hard. Only together we can make each other grow and excel!

All of us at the RGDA HQ were happy to have the Basulto family from RGDA NC at our school this last weekend. Besides the great training and fun time, Professor Adiv was proud to present Christine Basulto the Purple Belt. Christine has been training and involved with Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the RGDA for more than 10 years and was long due for the promotion. Read below their impressions on the experience.
Christine Basulto - Congratulations!!!
"Our family recently had the privilege of visiting RGDA’s Headquarters in New Jersey. It was an enriching and fun experience for the whole family! My wife and I have been students of Prof. David Adiv for over 10 years and each time we step on the mat with him our understanding of Jiu Jitsu is enriched by refreshing the principles and seeing concepts in new applications. Whether it is through group classes or private lessons, Professor David Adiv always offers high quality and personalized instruction! Where else can a father, mother and 4yr old children train together, being exposed to the same material and gaining information relevant to their level? All further proof that Gracie Jiu Jitsu is an art and science that anyone can learn regardless of age or experience and maintain their skills through all manner of circumstances." Armando Basulto, RGDA NC.

Professor Adiv would like to thank everyone who participated at the seminar hosted at Gracie New Jersey Academy this weekend. Among the participants we also had the presence of the following RGDA Representatives: Angelica, Brian O'leary and Chris Brough.
Everyone had a great time and the best time is yet to come: During the seminar staff was videotaping all participants to later review their body mechanics coordination and their understanding in bringing them into a real situation. These specific points will be studied and used to personalize the surprise free private lessons Professor Adiv will teach to each of the participants in the upcoming weeks.
This seminar offered the participants a unique opportunity to develop tools to scientifically investigate the importance of coordinating themselves in prospective to their structure, abilities and needs in order to be able to recognize and anticipate the circumstances of the fight; and use these tools to better learn Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
Testimonial: "First, I want to thank David for an amazing seminar today. Having the opportunity to think deeply about what we were doing, to take our time and feel so encouraged, to apply our movements with scientific precision and reason- these were all rare opportunities. All of these things combined to make today's seminar one of the best seminars I've ever attended. The breathing exercise alone was worth the price of the entire seminar. I've done the breathing several more times today, and, it's amazing how calm, peaceful, energized, and positive I feel as a result. Second, I want to express my similarly deep appreciation for David offering to teach the special private lesson to all of today's attendees. This is an even more rare and special opportunity, and, I am very grateful to have it." Sundar Brown, Gracie NJ Academy/ RGDA HQ
Stay tuned for photos!

Approached by a few students concerned with the swine flu epidemic that has hit Mexico, USA and several other countries, Professor Adiv was asked if and how we should train Gracie Jiu Jitsu in these times that we are been swamped by alarming news that suggest us to avoid close contact with each other and therefore avoid getting sick.
First and foremost Professor Adiv advises us to learn about the facts and not to be alienated by the media. He also encourages us to take all precautions to maintain proper personal hygiene and health, including washing our hands often and seeking medical help when not feeling well. However he gives emphasis to the actions we can take to completely eradicate this and many other issues that have been affecting our physical and emotional health.
Professor Adiv says that “This is the time for us to use all the tools we have to boost our immune system and keep it working well. Rather than breaking apart from each other, now it is the time to go to the academy and train.” It might sound a bit contradictory, however those who knows the benefits of training Gracie Jiu Jitsu will promptly understand and those who are not familiar with it yet, are encouraged to give it a try. Training Gracie Jiu Jitsu provides us with the whole package for great fitness and wellness.
The benefits are measured by a functional body capable of defending itself from the big bullies on the streets as well as from the microscopic threats around us. Professor Adiv mentions that "there won’t be masks strong enough to block these micro organisms from harming us if we don’t help each other to be strong from within."
Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the natural breathing exercises we often practice during our training sessions promote great cardiovascular health, and it is worth to note here that even though the swine flu is a big threat on its own, cardiovascular diseases have been the number one killer in America for the past decade. The natural breathing required when we are training or practiced as part of our warm up increases our lung capacity, the flow of oxygen to all our system and cells, facilitates the exchange of gases in our respiratory system and promotes natural detoxification of our bodies.
Training with a group of supportive friends brings up good feelings and help us to keep our mental and emotional health in check as well. And it is no novelty that good emotional health is a key component to boost our immune system.
So, now it is time to take Professor Adiv advice and pack up our gis and head to the academy.
Have a great training everyone!

All of us at Gracie Jiu Jitsu NJ Academy are very proud to see new colored belts around! And Professor David Adiv takes the opportunity to remind all of us that our team work and dedication as a whole make the difference in the learning process at Gracie Jiu Jitsu New Jersey Academy.
Just as nature forces us to unite and to depend on each other, we are constantly facing situations that test our will to carry on. Therefore Professor Adiv asks all of us to continue the group efforts to stay together, to motivate and to protect each other in order to fight these challenges.
The better the relationship among us, the greater will be our achievements. Please make the effort to come to the classes consistently, specially on those days that seem to be "so hard". We are sure that you will find friends that are going through similar challenges and that together we will be able to fight these adversities and achieve balance and harmony in everything that we do.
We would like to congratulate the students below on their belt promotions and also thank all our team for working together to make it possible. Together we get there!

From our RGDA school in Lancaster PA, coached by Mike Weisensee, we had the participation of two fighters: Collin Sharpe, at the age of 17 making his debut, was defeated by Matt Roeloffs from DFL Fighters and Keith McDonald, who was defeated by Anton Berzin from Rocco MMA by TKO referee stoppage due to unanswered punches in the beginning of the first round.
Win and losses made the night a great learning experience for all of us. We look forward to seeing more RGDA teams getting together and participating in such events.
We would like to thank the instructors and students who came to coach, support and cheer for our fighters.
Great Job Everyone! - Please stay tuned for pictures.

Professor Adiv would like congratulate our fighters and thank all those who came to support us on this event. We are proud to report on the performance and sportsmanship of these competitors:
Our first fighter to make to the cage that evening and also making his NHB debut was Wesley Claytor, going against Jason EIB (Modern MMA). Wes, who has only been training for about two years did really well keeping himself safe and being offensive whenever it was appropriate. The fight went the full three rounds and ended up on referee's decision in favor of his opponent. Wesley did show great posture, confidence and a lot of skills. We are all looking forward to see him fighting again.
Our second fighter of the evening, Sean Dunleavy, was going for his second NHB match, after a victorious debut a few months ago. Sean fought Brandon Wamboldt (Black and Blue MMA) and simply followed up with the training plan, stayed safe at all times and dominated his opponent finishing the fight at 2 minutes and 3o seconds of the first round via arm bar.
A few words from our fighters after the event:
"I'd like to thank Professor Adiv and the Gracie NJ Academy instructors and friends for their support and for helping to make it possible." Wesley Claytor
"I would like to thank and dedicate my performance to Grandmaster Helio Gracie. If it wasn't for him, MMA, NHB and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as we know today wouldn't even exist." Sean Dunleavy

WITH KARIANNE DICKSON FROM MPOWER CROSSFITSunday, March 15th at 12pmWHAT TO WEAR: Comfortable work out clothes (Gi pants and T-shirt is ok) Open to all our Gracie Jiu Jitsu students. Please RSVP by: Friday March 13th. (See front desk for list or e-mail us at gracienewjersey@aol.com) What is CrossFit?CrossFit is defined as “a strength and conditioning system built on constantly varied, if not randomized, functional movements executed at high intensity.” The exercises that form the foundation of the program all support the natural primal movements of man. These include standing, sitting, throwing, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, running and punching. Workouts focus on high intensity, never exceeding 30 minutes So…What does that mean? With CrossFit you will always be challenged to reach new heights, there is no scheduled repetition of workouts…it is always a surprise!! The movements are purposeful and of the highest efficiency for optimal health and fitness. To learn more about CrossFit, check: http://homebodiestraining.com and http://www.crossfit.com

On January 11th, 2009 we held a "Women's Self Development" workshop taught by our instructor Angelica. The workshop is an extention of our Women's Only Program and of the services available for the ladies in our community. This time it was specifically designed for and taught to the local Girls Scout Troop 929 - Service Unit 6, who have been working to earn their badge in Self-defense. We had about 14 young ladies (ages 15 and 16) who very attentively participated and voiced their curiosity and concerns.
During the workshop the girls, were taught how to work on the development of awareness to prevent dangerous situations and techniques to defend themselves against common attacks. We also had the priviledge to have Officer Peggy C., who is also one of our students, as a guest speaker for the girls scouts on the matters of domestic violence and abuse, the laws protecting the individuals and the resources available for the victims to get help.

For this event we would like to thank Lauren E., for her initiative and desire to share the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self-defense system with her friends. Casey O. and Katie C. for assisting in teaching the girls and Peggy C. for her valuable information.
Special thanks to the Girls Scout Troop 929 for their participation and outstanding donation to the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu New Jersey Academy Foundation.
Women of any age are welcome to check out our Women's Only Classes at Gracie Jiu Jitsu New Jersey Academy every Friday at 6:30pm. And stay tuned for more workshops for ladies only!
Do you have questions about women's training or would like to host a workshop, please contact Professor Adiv and/or Angelica at gracienewjersey@aol.com or (908)713-0004
